Should you stay in Luss?
Yes, if you want the village at its quietest: early mornings and evenings, once the coach parties have gone. You are on the loch, with the pier a short walk away. No, if you need a train, a late bar or a lot of choice: Balloch is better for a car-free break, and Tarbet or Arrochar suit the hills.
Book early for summer weekends and school holidays. We have no booking-lead-time figure from any operator, so treat that as general advice and book as soon as your dates are fixed.
There is no railway station in Luss. The nearest is at Balloch, with a direct train from Glasgow, and bus 305 runs on to the village. See public transport to the loch for the full route.
What kinds of stay there are
We do not name or rate individual properties here, because we have no verified facts for them yet. This is what each type suits; check the property’s own site for rooms, breakfast, dogs and parking.
| Type of stay | Suits | Parking | Without a car | Booking tip |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hotel or coaching inn | Couples and short breaks; breakfast and a bar on the doorstep. | Ask whether the hotel has its own spaces. The public car park does not allow overnight stays. | Bus 305 from Balloch, then a short walk. | Ask about dinner times when you book. |
| Lodge, cabin or self-catering | Families, groups and dogs; space and a kitchen. | Usually on site; confirm before you book. | Harder: you may need a taxi from the bus stop. | Check the minimum stay and the changeover day. |
| B&B or guest house | Walkers and anyone on a budget who wants a local breakfast. | Ask. Spaces are often limited. | Walkable from the bus stop in most cases. | Small places fill first, so book early. |
| Caravan park or campsite | Tourers and tents, and the lowest cost. | On the pitch. | Only if you carry your kit from the bus. | Camping outside a site needs a permit from 1 March to 30 September. See Luss camping options. |
Our general guidance only. Price bands, dog policies and breakfast details are not in our sources, so we give none.
Choose and book
Decide whether Luss is your base
Luss is a good base for the west shore, the pier and short walks. For a train, choose Balloch; for the hills, choose Tarbet or Arrochar; see the places around the loch to compare. Walkers can reach the route on Three Lochs Way from the village.
Pick your type of stay
Match the type in the table to your group: hotel or inn for a couple, lodge or cabin for a family, B&B for a walker, camping for a tourer.
Sort out parking before you book
Ask the property where you will leave the car overnight. The council car park does not allow overnight stays and charges £1.20 an hour from 9am to 6pm. See the Luss parking rules for the tariff and car parks around the loch for alternatives.
Book the right season
Summer weekends and school holidays go first. Autumn and winter are quieter, with fewer boats: scheduled cruises run to the end of October on the timetable we checked on 12 October 2026.
Use the official site where you can
Book direct with the property if you want its own terms. Where we add a partner link, we always give the official option beside it.
