Privacy notice

This is a static information site. It has no accounts and we do not ask you for personal details. This page explains the little data that does pass through, and who handles it.

Last updated 13 October 2026.

Who is responsible

The data controller is Jere Salmisto, who runs Visit Loch Lomond. Contact: hello@visit-lochlomond.com (see the contact page).

What data the site handles

  • No accounts, no forms. You cannot sign up or log in, and we do not collect names or emails through the site. If you email us, we keep your message and address to reply, and delete them when you ask.
  • Server logs. Like any website, the servers that deliver pages record technical data about each request, such as IP address, page requested, time and browser type. This is used for security and to keep the site running.
  • Cloudflare. The site is delivered through Cloudflare, which acts as a content network and security layer. Cloudflare processes your IP address and request details to do this. See Cloudflare’s own privacy policy for what it does.
  • Weather and warnings. Forecasts (MET Norway) and weather warnings (Met Office) are fetched by our server and built into the page. Your browser does not contact those services.
  • YouTube video. Videos stay as a plain button until you press play. Only then does your browser contact YouTube (using its privacy-enhanced domain), and YouTube may set its own cookies.
  • Photos. Our own photos are copies served from this site. The exception is tour photos in the GetYourGuide boxes, which your browser loads from GetYourGuide’s image server (cdn.getyourguide.com) when you scroll to them. That server sees your IP address but sets no cookies.
  • Maps links. Links to Google Maps open that service in a new page. Nothing is sent to it unless you follow the link.
  • Fonts and scripts are served from this site, not from a third party.

The site uses no advertising trackers.

Cookies and visitor statistics

With your consent we use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages are read, so we know what to improve. It sets first-party cookies whose names start with _ga (kept for up to 2 years) and sends Google your IP address, the page, your browser and device type and a random visitor ID. Google acts as our processor and may handle the data outside the UK under its standard contractual terms. Advertising features, Google signals and ad personalisation are off.

Nothing is loaded from Google until you press Accept in the banner. If you press Reject, no analytics runs at all. Your choice is stored in your own browser (local storage, not a cookie) for 12 months. You can change it at any time from Cookie settings; withdrawing removes the _ga cookies.

The legal basis for analytics is your consent.

Why we may use it, and for how long

Server and security logs are processed on the basis of our legitimate interest in running a secure site. Messages you send us are processed because you asked us to reply. Logs are kept by our hosting and Cloudflare for the periods they set; we do not keep a separate copy. Emails are deleted when you ask or when they are no longer needed.

Adverts and affiliate links in future

We may add adverts and affiliate links later. Both can involve cookies and similar technologies from third parties. If we do, they will go through the same consent banner, so you can refuse them before anything is set, and we will update this notice first. Until then none of this is in use. How we earn from links explains the rules, and our editorial standards say why this never changes what we recommend.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to its use, or ask us to restrict it. Email the address above. Because we hold almost no personal data, the answer will usually be that we hold none. For data held by Cloudflare, Open-Meteo, Wikimedia, Pexels or YouTube, use those companies’ own privacy tools.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. We would like the chance to put it right first. To report a change to this notice or anything else, use the contact page.
