Editorial policy

This guide is independent. This page sets out the rules for how pages are written, sourced, corrected and kept free of paid influence.

Last updated 12 October 2026.

Independence

Visit Loch Lomond is written by one author, Jere Salmisto, and is not owned by or affiliated with any hotel, operator, tourist board or the National Park Authority. Nobody reviews or approves a page before it goes live except us.

No paid placements in verdicts

We do not sell reviews, rankings or verdicts. A business cannot pay for a place on a list or for a better “Go” or “Skip”. If we earn money from links or adverts, that is separate and labelled; see the affiliate disclosure. If we ever accept a free ticket or stay, the page will say so.

How pages are written

  • Every price, time or distance comes from a named source and carries a “last checked” date. The facts page explains which sources win.
  • Where a fact is unknown or sources disagree, we say so and tell you how to check, instead of guessing.
  • We do not claim visits we have not made. Opinions are labelled as opinions.
  • Photos are credited with author and licence. Generic stock photos are labelled and do not name a place they were not taken at.

Corrections

If we get something wrong we fix it as soon as the correct fact is confirmed with the source, and update the “last checked” date. Where a mistake could have caused real harm, such as a safety rule or a closure, we correct it first and say what changed on the page. To flag an error, use the contact page.

Keeping pages up to date

Facts are re-checked every three to six months. Pages that depend on seasons, such as forest drives or ferries, are checked again before each season. The author has not visited every place described; about this guide explains what that means for how pages are written.
