Camping in Luss: campsite, season and permits

The campsite, its season and the permit rules for the shore

Camping in Luss mostly means one place: the Luss Caravan & Camp Site on Old Luss Road, with a tent field open 1 April to 30 September and touring pitches for most of the year. Camping on the shore anywhere else needs a National Park permit from 1 March to 30 September. The council car park does not allow overnight stays, so do not plan to sleep in a vehicle there.

Is there a campsite in Luss?

Yes: the Luss Caravan & Camp Site, on Old Luss Road (G83 8NT). It has a camp field for tents and hardstanding touring pitches for caravans and motorhomes, and it runs under the Luss Estates family. Phone 01436 860 658 for questions; booking is online.

It is not open all year for everyone. The site's own information page gives the camp field as 1 April to 30 September, and touring pitches as 1 March to 23 December and 27 December to 31 January, with winter walk-ins allowed depending on the state of the field. The site's booking page lists tent dates to 31 October, so confirm your dates when you book.

Camping outside a site is a different matter. In the National Park's camping management zones a permit is needed from 1 March to 30 September, the limit is three nights in one area, and camping without one can lead to a fine of up to £500. From 1 October 2026 to 28 February 2027 no permit is needed in the zones.

How to book camping in Luss

  1. Decide between the site and a permit

A site pitch gives you showers, water and a shop, and you book with the campsite. A permit gives you a spot in a management zone for up to three nights, with no facilities supplied. For a first trip, the site is simpler.

  2. Check the season for your type of pitch

Tents are the narrowest window, from 1 April to 30 September on the information page. Touring pitches run almost all year, closing for a few days around Christmas. If the booking page and the information page disagree, ring the site.

  3. Book and pay the deposit

Book online through the campsite's booking page. A 25% deposit applies with a minimum payment of £25, the balance falls due 4 weeks before arrival, and bookings made inside 4 weeks are paid in full.

  4. Arrive by 8pm and mind the quiet hours

Latest check-in is 8pm. There is no driving on site after 10pm, and quiet time runs from 10pm to 7am.

  5. Plan your fire and your dog

Dogs are welcome on leads, and the owner must pick up after them. Raised barbecues are allowed, and supervised fires must be in raised, mesh-covered pits. Fires are not allowed on the beach.

  6. Add a day out

The campsite describes itself as close to the Loch Lomond Faerie Trail, the general store and the boat cruises. For a walk, the Loch Lomond Faerie Trail on foot is the short option and a day on Three Lochs Way the long one.

Check before you go

  • The campsite's two pages disagree on the tent season end (30 September or 31 October). Confirm when you book.
  • We have not found pitch prices on a campsite page, so we quote none.
  • We do not know which camping management zone covers your exact spot. Check the National Park's zone map before you pitch outside the site.
  • Midges are worst from late May to early September and most active early and late in the day. Bring repellent.
  • Winter walk-ins depend on the state of the field, so ring ahead from November to March.
