Arrochar Hotel and where to stay in Arrochar

Two hotels on the Loch Long shore, and how to choose between them

Arrochar Hotel and Loch Long Hotel both stand on the shore of Loch Long under the Arrochar Alps, and each has a site we could read. Pick by what those sites say about parking, dogs and food, and book early for hill weekends. The council car park does not allow overnight stays.

Should you stay in Arrochar?

Yes, if the hills are the point. Arrochar sits at the head of Loch Long, with a station on the West Highland line, long-distance buses on the road and the Arrochar Alps overhead. No, if you want a pier-side village on the Loch Lomond shore: Luss and Balloch suit that better.

Two hotels have their own sites. Arrochar Hotel lists 76 en-suite bedrooms plus one suite, on-site parking and dog-friendly rooms with a charge. Loch Long Hotel lists 82 en-suite bedrooms, a restaurant, a lounge bar and a beer garden. Its site does not state parking, so ask before you book.

We give no prices, star ratings or review scores, because we have no dated source for them. Compare the same dates on each hotel's own site and on one booking site, and read the newest reviews rather than the average.

Arrochar hotels compared

Everything in this table comes from each hotel's own website, read on 12 October 2026. Where a site is silent we say so, because a blank is not a yes.

If you searched for the Claymore Hotel, see the questions below: we could not read an official site for a hotel of that name.

Choose and book

  1. Decide whether Arrochar is your base

Arrochar suits walkers heading for The Cobbler and the Arrochar Alps, and anyone arriving by train. For the same hills from a quieter spot, compare Tarbet accommodation, and for the Loch Lomond east shore see where to stay in Inversnaid. Planning a hill day? The Cobbler route guide covers the walk.

  2. Sort out parking before you book

The council's Glenloin car park does not allow overnight stays or motorhomes, and charges £1.20 an hour or £10.30 for the day from 9am to 6pm. Ask your hotel where guests leave the car overnight. Leaving the car in Arrochar covers every car park, and the loch-side parking guide compares the wider area.

  3. Plan the journey without a car

Arrochar and Tarbet station is on the West Highland line, about 1 hour 20 minutes from Glasgow Queen Street on the planner we checked. Buses on the A82 and A83 also stop here; routes in by car, train and bus has the services and the booking notes. We have no measured walking distance from the station to either hotel, so check a map.

  4. Book direct, or compare once

Check each hotel's own site first for rooms, dogs and parking, then compare once on a booking site. Where we add a partner link, the official option sits beside it.

Check before you book

  • Does your hotel have its own parking? Arrochar Hotel says it does; Loch Long Hotel's site does not say.
  • What is the dog charge, and are dogs allowed in the restaurant? Arrochar Hotel says charges apply, and neither site gives a figure we can quote.
  • Is dinner served on the night you arrive? Loch Long Hotel says food is served daily; check Arrochar Hotel's dining times.
  • Do you need electric vehicle charging? We have no confirmed charger at either hotel.
  • Deals change daily, so we state none.

Other bases nearby

If Arrochar is full or not quite right, these are the closest alternatives.

  • TarbetClose by on the Loch Lomond side of the same neck of land. It suits a pier and waterbus start.
  • InversnaidOn the quieter east shore, with the West Highland Way passing through. Reaching it takes a car or a boat.

Eating, camping and the village

Eating out as a guest? Eating out in Arrochar lists pubs and cafés. Bringing a tent instead? Arrochar pitches and permits explains where camping is allowed.

For a wider choice, the full list of places to compare across the loch covers every other base. We may earn a commission on some links: how we earn a commission.

Questions people ask

Is there anything to do in Arrochar?

Yes. The hills above the village are the main draw, led by The Cobbler, and the shore of Loch Long is a short walk from either hotel. The village guide lists the walks and the rest.

Is Arrochar Hotel worth the price?

We do not publish prices, so we cannot judge value for you. What its own site states is 76 en-suite bedrooms plus one suite, on-site parking and dining on the premises. Compare your dates on its site and one booking site.

Who owns Arrochar Hotel?

Its website sits on the Bespoke Hotels site, which presents it as A Bespoke Hotel. We have not checked company records, so if ownership matters, look it up at Companies House.

Where is the Claymore Hotel in Arrochar?

We could not read an official site for a hotel of that name, so we do not describe it. Check the address on any booking page against the hotel's own site before you pay.

Can I park overnight in Arrochar?

Not in the council's Glenloin car park, motorhomes included. Ask your hotel about its own parking.

How do I get to Arrochar without a car?

Take the West Highland line train from Glasgow Queen Street to Arrochar and Tarbet, which takes about 1 hour 20 minutes, or a Citylink or Ember coach along the A82.
