Where should you stay in Tarbet?
Stay at the Tarbet Hotel if you want a large, loch-side hotel with a restaurant and bar. Its own website describes 49 bedrooms with double or twin beds, loch-view rooms, a breakfast and brunch service from 8am to 2:30pm seven days a week, dog-friendly rooms on the first floor and electric vehicle charging points. The hotel is run by Manorview.
Is it open? The hotel's site is taking bookings, but we cannot confirm daily opening, so phone the hotel on 01301 702 346 if your plans depend on it. We give no rates, review scores or deals: the hotel's page shows an autumn offer without a date, so we do not quote it.
Beyond the hotel, choose by what you need. For a bed on a budget, see Arrochar, a short hop west. For a tent or a motorhome, see Tarbet camping. For a holiday park, the usual search points to Inveruglas to the north; we could not confirm its operator from its own site, so check before you book.
Tarbet hotel and other places to stay compared
What each kind of stay offers. We name the Tarbet Hotel because its own website gave us facts we could check. We name nothing else, because we have no verified facts for other properties.

Choose and book
Decide if Tarbet is your base
Tarbet works if you want the train, a short cruise or the waterbus to the east shore. For shops and more food, Arrochar and Balloch have more. A stop in Tarbet is the village guide.
Pick the type of stay
Hotel for a short break, B&B for a walker, holiday park for a family, camping for a tent. The table shows what we could check.
Sort out how you will arrive
Arrochar & Tarbet station is about 1 hour 20 minutes from Glasgow Queen Street, and about a 10-minute walk from the station to the loch. Routes in by car, train and bus covers the full options, and car parks around the loch covers the public parking.
Add food and a night out
If your stay does not include dinner, eating out in Tarbet covers the options.
Use the official site first
Book direct with the hotel for its own terms. If we add partner links, we show the official booking option beside them.
Check before you book
- Rates and deals: we publish none. The hotel's own page shows an undated autumn offer, so treat any price you see as a starting point.
- Parking at the hotel is not stated on its page. Ask before you arrive, and see arriving by car in Tarbet for the public car park.
- The hotel's page and our own sources differ on the train time from Glasgow (the hotel says about 1 hour 30 minutes, the ScotRail planner average is 1 hour 17), so check the timetable.
- We have not verified any holiday park near Tarbet from its own site.
- Midges are worst from late May to early September, especially early and late in the day.
Other bases nearby
If Tarbet is full, these are the nearest alternatives.
- ArrocharA short hop west at the head of Loch Long. Arrochar hotels and guest houses covers it.
- InversnaidAcross the loch by waterbus. The Inversnaid options covers it.
Around Tarbet
What you can do from a Tarbet bed without a car: Tarbet Pier has toilets, a cafe and a motorhome waste disposal point, and the waterbus runs from there to Inversnaid and Rowardennan. The Tarbet to Rowardennan crossing takes 30 minutes, runs on Saturdays and Sundays only, and the season is roughly May to late September, so check the timetable if a night on the east shore is part of your plan.
A motorhome or campervan guest should know that the pier car park was built for day visitors, and the National Park Authority has talked of an aire scheme for Arrochar and Tarbet. We have not confirmed that any overnight bay is in place, so ask your host or check on the day before you rely on it.
