Tarbet campsite: motorhome stops, Beinglas and permit rules

Overnight van spaces, the nearest tent site and the permit rules

There is no tent campsite in Tarbet that we could confirm from its own page. The Tarbet campsite options are overnight motorhome spaces at the National Park's pier site and one Stay the Night space at Tarbet Isle (£10), the motorhome-only Loch Lomond Holiday Park at Inveruglas, and Beinglas Campsite at Inverarnan for tents. Camping on the shore needs a permit from 1 March to 30 September.

Where can you camp near Tarbet?

For a van, at two places in Tarbet itself. The National Park's pier site lists overnight motorhome parking spaces and a motorhome waste disposal point as open, but the pages we read give no price. Forestry and Land Scotland's Tarbet Isle car park, north of the village on the A82, has one motorhome space under its Stay the Night scheme at £10 a night, paid by RingGo, one night only and for self-contained vehicles only. It is on a slight slope, and Forestry and Land Scotland recommends levelling blocks.

For a pitch with facilities, the National Park lists Loch Lomond Holiday Park at Inveruglas under motorhomes and campervans only, and Ardlui Holiday Park at Ardlui, which its own booking page shows as holiday homes, with no touring pitches. For a tent, the nearest confirmed site is Beinglas Campsite at Inverarnan (G83 7DX), on the West Highland Way, with camping in three fields, a shop and a restaurant. We found no prices for any of these, so ask.

Between 1 March and 30 September, the National Park's camping management zones allow camping only in a campsite or with a permit, at £4.50 per tent or motorhome per night for up to three nights. Motorhome permits are available at Firkin Point and Inveruglas on the west side of Loch Lomond. The pages name no permit areas at Tarbet, so check the camping map before you pitch on the shore. From 1 October 2026 to 28 February 2027 no permit is needed. A breach can mean a fine of up to £500.

How to camp near Tarbet

  1. Choose your kind of night

A van space in Tarbet, a tent pitch with showers at Beinglas, or a permit pitch on a shore. Each is booked differently, so decide first.

  2. Check the season

Beinglas shows a seasonal closure from 12 October, and Stay the Night has fewer car parks over winter. Permits are not needed from 1 October 2026 to 28 February 2027, but pitches have no facilities.

  3. Book or turn up

Stay the Night cannot be reserved. Beinglas takes online and phone bookings. Permits can be booked up to four weeks ahead and cancelled up to one week before.

  4. Arrive by train

Arrochar & Tarbet station is about a 10 minute walk to the loch, according to the National Park, so you can carry a light kit.

  5. Eat and plan the weather

Pubs and tearooms in Tarbet covers what we can confirm. Midges, rain and daylight by month shows which months suit camping. If the forecast turns, Tarbet hotels and B&Bs lists the roofs we could read.

Check before you go

  • The pier's overnight price is not on the Authority's pages. Ask, or read the machine.
  • Stay the Night is for self-contained motorhomes and campervans only. Pop-up tents and toilets beside the vehicle are not allowed, and nor are fires, barbecues or generators.
  • Beinglas shows no prices and bans open flames, so bring a stove rather than a barbecue.
  • The National Park's byelaw pages name no places for each camping zone and refer to a map. Check the zone map before you pitch anywhere that is not a campsite.
  • A breach of the camping byelaws can mean a report to the Procurator Fiscal and a fine of up to £500.
  • Dogs: Beinglas is dog-friendly throughout. We found no dog rules for the other sites.
