The short answer

Luss Pier is the village jetty on Loch Lomond’s western shore, and the National Park says loch cruises and waterbus services leave from it for Balloch, Inchcailloch and Balmaha. On the Cruise Loch Lomond pages we checked on 12 October 2026, the Luss Circular takes 90 minutes for £19 per adult, and the crossing to Balmaha is £20. There is a council pay and display car park in the village, so allow time to park and walk down. For the village itself, our Luss village guide covers the shops, the church and the views. What you get

  • Cruise Loch Lomond from Luss

    Circular and waterbus

Cruise Loch Lomond runs three sailings from Luss that we could confirm: the Luss Circular (90 minutes, £19 adult), the crossing to Balmaha (£20) and the Island Explorer to Inchcailloch (£20). The same operator also sails from Tarbet and Inversnaid, with a Tarbet Circular at 60 minutes for £17 and an Inversnaid Circular at 75 minutes for £17. Its office phone number is 01301 702356, and the site says to leave plenty of time to park and reach the pier.

  • Sweeney’s Island Safari

    75 minutes from Luss

Sweeney’s Cruise Co also departs from Luss. Its Island Safari takes 75 minutes and costs £21 per adult on the page we read. Its ferry service between Balloch and Luss and between Luss and Balmaha runs for about an hour and is listed at £28 adult return, a price taken from the ferry card. Book on Sweeney’s site or phone 01389 752376.

  • The daily timetable

    Checked 12 October 2026

On the Cruise Loch Lomond timetable for 12 October 2026, boats left Luss for Balmaha at 10:00, 11:30, 13:15 and 14:45, and returned from Balmaha to Luss at 10:45, 12:15, 14:00 and 15:30. The Inchcailloch boats left Luss at the same four times. Another page on the same site shows slightly different afternoon times for the island trip, so confirm with the operator before you plan around one.

  • Season and winter sailings

Late March to the end of October

The main boat season in 2026 runs 27 March to 1 November according to the tourism site we checked, and Cruise Loch Lomond says its scheduled cruises run to the end of October, with selected routes continuing into winter. We did not find the 2027 timetable, so check before you travel outside those months.

  • The pier and the view

    Ben Lomond across the water

The National Park highlights views of Ben Lomond across the loch from the pier. It is also a good place to watch boats come and go even if you do not sail. We found no facilities listed at the pier itself, so treat the village as your base for toilets, food and shops.

  • Walks from the village

    Four marked routes

The National Park lists four marked routes in Luss: the Lochside Path (15 minutes), the Riverside Path (30 minutes), the Slate Quarry Path (30 minutes) and the Luss Heritage Walk (1 hour). The Loch Lomond Faerie Trail starts in the same part of the village and suits families, and Three Lochs Way route guide is the long-distance option nearby.

  • A village with a screen history

    Take the High Road

The conservation village was largely developed in the 18th and 19th centuries to house slate quarry workers. It became familiar to a TV audience as the fictional Glendarroch in the Scottish Television soap Take the High Road, which ran from 1980 to 2003 and filmed its exteriors here.

Questions people ask

What is special about Luss?

It is a conservation village on Loch Lomond with a pier for cruises, marked walks and a past as a slate quarry community. It also stood in for the fictional Glendarroch in the soap Take the High Road. Our sleeping in Luss guide and food and drink in Luss cover the rest.

Which lake is bigger, Loch Ness or Loch Lomond?

The National Park calls Loch Lomond the largest inland stretch of water in Britain, extending 24 miles north from Balloch. We did not source a Loch Ness comparison, so we do not rank them on volume or depth.

Can you get a boat from Balloch to Luss?

Yes. Sweeney’s Cruise Co runs a ferry service between Balloch and Luss that takes about an hour and is listed at £28 adult return. The Luss-based cruises we checked are Cruise Loch Lomond sailings to Balmaha and Inchcailloch, and the 305 bus also links Balloch and Luss.

What is the prettiest town in Loch Lomond?

It is a matter of taste. Luss is the village most people mean, with its stone cottages and the loch at the end of the street. Another good choice is Balmaha, which our pier and cruise options can take you to by boat.

Is there parking at Luss Pier?

There is no separate pier car park we could verify. The village car park is council pay and display at £1.20 an hour, from 9am to 6pm, and does not allow overnight stays.

When do boats run from Luss Pier?

On the 12 October 2026 timetable the first boat to Balmaha left at 10:00 and the last one left Luss at 14:45. Scheduled cruises run to the end of October, with selected winter routes, so check the date you plan to travel.

Does Luss Pier have a cafe or toilets?

We found none listed at the pier. The National Park says the village has a large pay and display car park with public toilets, plus shops and places to eat.
