Drymen pub, restaurants and cafes

A square-side inn, two hotel restaurants, a tearoom and a bakery

The best-known Drymen pub is the Clachan Inn on the village square, which calls itself Scotland’s oldest licensed pub. Drymen also has two hotel restaurants, a tearoom and a bakery. We list five places with a website or listing we could read, so you can choose before you park. We give no ratings or prices, and you should check each venue for hours.

Where can you eat in Drymen?

Drymen has a pub, two hotel restaurants and two daytime places. The Clachan Inn on Drymen Square is the village pub and restaurant, and it recommends booking by phone. The Winnock Hotel, also on the square, has the Merlin Restaurant and the Ptarmigan Bar. The Buchanan Arms Hotel on Main Street has Guy’s Restaurant. For the daytime, Skoosh is a tearoom and takeaway on Main Street, and Drymen Bakery sells bread, pastries and soup on Stirling Road.

We list a venue only when we have read its own website or a village listing for it. Drymen has other pubs and takeaways, but we could not verify them, so we do not name them. We give no hours, ratings or prices: they change, and the village listing is undated.

Decide where to eat before you park. Drymen parking explains what the council does and does not publish, and nearby Drymen has the rest of the plan.

How to choose

  1. Decide what you want

For a pub meal, choose the Clachan Inn, which also offers pizzas from a wood-fired oven. For a hotel restaurant, the Winnock and the Buchanan Arms both have one. For a coffee and a bite in the daytime, Skoosh is a tearoom, and the bakery sells food to take away.

  2. Book the Clachan Inn

The inn’s page says it strongly recommends booking a table, and gives the phone number 01360 660824. Do this before a weekend evening or a walkers’ lunch.

  3. Plan your parking

The council’s charge table does not name Drymen, so we cannot give a tariff. The Forestry and Land Scotland car parks at Garadhban and Old Drymen Road are free, but they are 1.5 and 4 miles north of the village. The parking page sets out your choices.

  4. Think about the dog

We found no dog policy for the Clachan Inn. The Winnock’s hotel page says pets are welcome. Phone first, because a pub bar and a restaurant room often differ.

  5. Stay the night

Planning dinner and a bed? See sleeping in Drymen, or Drymen campsites if you are bringing a tent.

Check before you go

  • Opening hours: we give none. The village listing is undated, and the venue pages we read do not state hours. Phone or check the day before, especially out of season.
  • Booking: only the Clachan Inn states a booking preference. We found no rule for the others.
  • Takeaway: the bakery sells food to take away, and Skoosh runs a takeaway as well as a tearoom.
  • Dogs: only the Winnock’s hotel page mentions pets. We found no dog policy for the Clachan Inn, so ask.
  • Prices and ratings: we give none. Check the menus on the venues’ own pages.
