Races and runs

Organisers publish a date once a year, usually months ahead. None of the four below had a 2027 date on its site when we checked, except the West Highland Way Race.

• Run Loch Lomond

  A festival of running in Balloch, organised by West Dunbartonshire Leisure Trust: a fun run, a 10K (age 15 and over) and a 5K (age 11 and over). In 2026 it ran on Saturday 20 June, with the 10K at 10:00am and the 5K at 10:20am. Check runlochlomond.com for the next date.

• Balloch Castle Country Park 5K, 10K and half marathon

  Organised by Up and Running Events on loop routes of woodland trails and park paths: the 5K is one lap and the 10K two. In 2026 it was on Saturday 8 August at 9:30am. This is the half marathon to look for if you searched for a Loch Lomond half marathon. Check runabc.co.uk for the next date.

• West Highland Way Race

  A race along the West Highland Way, entered by ballot. The organiser has published 19 June 2027 and says ballot registration ran from 1 to 14 October 2026, with results before the end of October. Spectators should check westhighlandwayrace.org for where to watch.

• Highland Fling

  A 53 mile (85 km) race from Milngavie to Tyndrum along the southern West Highland Way through the National Park. In 2026 it was on Saturday 29 August. Entry needs a qualifying event and a minimum age of 20, and no 2027 date was on highlandflingrace.org when we looked.

Games, festivals and music

These are the recurring events we could confirm from the organiser's own page.

• Luss Highland Games

  Held in Luss every year since 1875 apart from the two World Wars, with piping, Highland dancing and heavy events. In 2026 it was on Saturday 4 July, 10am to 5pm, with adults at £15, children £7 and a family ticket £35. The organisers suggest car-sharing because the village is small, and point to a 250-space car park. Check lusshighlandgames.co.uk for 2027.

• Callander Jazz and Blues Festival

  Run by Callander Community Development Trust. The 2026 festival ran from Friday 2 to Sunday 4 October, and in 2025 it had 66 gigs across 9 venues. No 2027 date was shown when we looked: see incallander.co.uk/callanderjazz.

Is there a Loch Lomond marathon?

Not a road marathon on the loch itself. Searches for one mostly turn up the Loch Ness Marathon, the Highland Fling and a few events at Balloch, and the races below are the ones that run here.

If you want a distance race by the loch, the nearest are the 10K and 5K of Run Loch Lomond and the half marathon at Balloch Castle Country Park. For a much longer day, the Highland Fling is 53 miles, and the West Highland Way Race is a longer race along the trail. The Fling needs a qualifying event, and the Way Race is entered by ballot.

Is there a half marathon in Loch Lomond in 2026? Yes: the Balloch Castle Country Park event on Saturday 8 August 2026, which has already taken place this year. Look for the next one on the organiser's site.

These are the months the events ran in 2026. They are a guide to when to look, not a promise: organisers move dates and sometimes cancel.

Check the organiser before you travel

Always check the organiser's own site for the date, start time and any road closures. We give no 2027 dates except the West Highland Way Race, because the other organisers had not published one when we looked. If a date is not yet on the organiser's page, it is not confirmed.

Beds and car parks fill up on event weekends. For the Luss Highland Games, the organisers suggest car-sharing, since the village of Luss is small. For races at Balloch, check road closures with the organiser. If you plan to stay, book early.

We also looked for the Killin Highland Games, a Callander Highland Games and the Trossachs Beer Festival, and could not find an organiser's own page with a current date for any of them, so they are not listed. Visit Killin and Callander and what to do there have the village guides.
