Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers
The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers is the oldest club in the world, with continuous records from 1744. They began on Leith Links, in Edinburgh, moved out to Musselburgh when the links became too congested, and then to their present home at Muirfield. Muirfield is the location of James Bairds and Harry Vardons first Open wins, Jack Nicklauss first in 1966 and Trevinos mauling of Jacklin in 1972, and home to two of Faldos Open triumphs. Muirfield is considered hallowed ground, being one of the earliest courses in the world to use the design concepts of two loops of nine running contrary to each other.
