Ben Lomond Clanscape
Try your hand at a variety of traditional skills, and learn about life in days gone by!

Visit our recently thatched cruck-framed building at Ardess, Rowardennan, to get a chance to try your hand at a variety of traditional skills.

Try the Green Woodworking techniques used in the building construction; help the wool spinners spin their yarns; try stone carving, and lend a hand to mow the meadow by scythe. Learn rope making techniques and have tea and bannocks around the fire. Make artists willow charcoal to take home, and all to the comforting sounds of live traditional music in the open air.

Open 09:30 - 16:30. No booking required, just drop by and join in at any time throughout the day. This is a free event, but donations are welcome!

To get there, from Rowardennan car park walk north for 300m to the entrance to the youth hostel, then follow the brown signs for Ben Lomond ranger service for another 300m.

Sat 17 September
Ben Lomond Torchlight Challenge

Experience the thrill of being on top of a mountain in the dark, and help raise funds for path repair and mountain rescue!

The Ben Lomond Torchlight Challenge will give you the opportunity to enjoy being on the mountain top, in the dark, in the safe company of experienced Lomond Mountain Rescue Team members and the NTS ranger service. The walk up will be during sunset, and we'll send out a torchlight beacon to the world from the summit, before descending by torch, and hopefully a bit of moonlight.

To participate, you will need to pay a registration fee and raise a minimum sponsorship sum in aid of two good causes - Ben Lomond footpath repair and Lomond Mountain Rescue Team. All funds raised by the event will be split 60:40 between these two worthwhile mountain causes.

This is an arduous walk, which will take several hours and require a good degree of fitness. Please contact us to discuss the event if you are at all unsure of the suitability of this event for yourself.
